Beyonce was able to drop 60 pounds in just four months. To put that into perspective that is 15 pounds a month or half a pound every single day, which means she was burning 1500 more calories a day than she was taking in.

In this case Beyonce ran for a couple hours a day and ate predominately lettuce.
Celebrities have to use treadmills because they cannot risk being in public for to long. Most of them would be ambushed by paparazzi or taken hostage and ransomed for a reward. So for them it is best to stay inside a confined area where their producers and agents can monitor them constantly. For everyone else, outdoor running is a cheap alternative to purchasing a treadmill. However, you are not going to get that same isolated-celebrity-type feeling.
